Mihin Lanka, a low-cost airline that the Sri Lankan government-owned, was based in Colombo (Sri Lanka). Mihin Lanka was established in 2006 and operated services from its hub. Bandaranaike International Airport connects to many cities in India, Southeast Asia, and Eastern Africa. Two Airbus A320 aircraft were wet-leased and operated from 2007 to connect to Tiruchirappalli (Thiruvananthapuram), Bangkok, Singapore, Bodhgaya, and Male. In October 2016, Mihin Lanka’s operations were ended by SriLankan Airlines, which resumed its flights on the routes previously operated by Mihin Lanka, and also took over additional destinations.

Overview of Mihin Lanka Airlines
The Sri Lankan government made initial equity investments of LKR250 million in Mihin. Sri Lanka Putra Bank, headed by Sajin Vass Gunawardena, also invested LKR300 million in redeemable preference shares. To strengthen Mihin’s financial position, the government granted Mihin LKR500 million in 2008. The government also gave Mihin a grant of LKR3,000,000,000 in 2009. The government also guaranteed two bank loans to Mihin. One was a three-year (2006-09), LKR 250m loan from the State-owned Bank of Ceylon, and another three-year (2009-12), LKR 1,553 million loans from the Bank of Ceylon to lease an aircraft.
This increased its equity to LKR3,004million as of 31/12/10. Since its inception, Mihin had been financially unstable. According to official government figures, Mihin suffered losses of LKR5,877 million between 2007-and 2010. Mihin lost LKR1-2 billion annually despite reducing its workforce by a quarter and switching from a wet lease to a dry lease. According to reports, Mihin suffered losses of LKR1,700 million between April 2011 – and January 2012. The government was able to settle LKR2.4 trillion in loans for the company. Mihin couldn’t repay a loan of LKR500m it received from the State-owned Airport Aviation Services Private Ltd.

SriLankan currently has an online network with 40 destinations and codeshares to other airlines to offer 42 cities in 20 different countries. Its interline partnerships and membership in the Oneworld alliance can provide passengers with connectivity to more than 1,000 cities in 160 other countries. Sri Lankan currently operates 14 cities in India as the most significant foreign airline service. It also serves two cities in the Maldives.

Cabin Class
SriLankan offers two types of service: Economy Class and Business Class. Sri Lankan offers flat-bed seating in Business Class on all long-haul aircraft with Audio Video On Demand. Fully flat beds have a width of 19.5 inches and can be reclined to a length of 180 degrees (79 inches). Each seat is equipped with a personal IFE system measuring 15 inches. The latest additions to the Sri Lankan fleet will include Thales Avant IFE. This features extended business class seats and modern entertainment features.
The A330-300 fleet offers all-aisle access seating with a 1-2-1 arrangement for Business classes. A320 and A321 aircraft have Business Class. This layout provides additional reclining seats and a width between 19 inches and a pitch between 39 and 49 inches.
Entertainment
Sri Lankan Airlines offers AVOD inflight entertainment. The RAVE ZODAIC Inflight Entertainment is available on the A320, A321, and A330-200. In partnership with OnAir, SriLankan now offers wifi connectivity onboard the A330-300. SriLankan is South Asia’s first airline with onboard wifi.
Baggage Allowance
Check-in is possible at airports starting 3 hours before departure. It is recommended that passengers arrive in good time and have all necessary travel documents. The counters will close 45 minutes before the departure time, and passengers may not check in after that time.
