Overview of Lufthansa Airlines

Lufthansa’s history dates back to 1926, when Deutsche Luft Hansa A.G..Berlin was the place where it was founded. DLH, or as it was called, was Germany’s flag carrier up until 1945 when all services were ended by Nazi Germany. Since then, it has been proven that Deutsche Luft Hansa used forced labor and hid forced laborers at Tempelhof airport. A company called Aktiengesellschaft für Luftverkehrsbedarf was established in Cologne, 6 January 1953. Many of its employees had previously worked for the airline. Kurt Weigelt was a Nazi war criminal who served as a board member on the new Lufthansa.

Kurt Knipfer was a member of the Nazi party who led Luft Hansa between 1933 and 1945. It was unknown when the new airline would be operational as West Germany hadn’t yet been granted sovereignty over its airspace. Luft ordered four Convair CV340s and four Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellations in 1953 and established a Hamburg Airport maintenance base. Luft purchased the name and logo from the liquidated Deutsche Lufthansa on 6 August 1954 for DM 30,000, which is equivalent to EUR38000. This continued the tradition of a German flag carrier with that name.

Lufthansa Airlines Destination

Lufthansa Flight 540 was a scheduled, commercial flight operated by Lufthansa with a Boeing 747130. It carried 157 passengers (140 passengers) and 17 crew members.
