Air Canada is Canada’s flag carrier. It also has the largest passenger and fleet size. Its headquarters located in Montreal, Quebec. It was founded in 1937 and offers scheduled and charter flights for passengers and cargo to 207 destinations worldwide. It is a founding member of the Star Alliance. The three largest hubs of Air Canada are Toronto Pearson International Airport (MTO), Montreal-Trudeau International Airport (MTV), and Vancouver International Airport (VIE). Air Canada Express is the airline’s regional service.

Canada’s national airline was established in 1936 by the Canadian federal government. Trans-Canada Air Lines (TCA) began operations on its first transcontinental flights in 1938. After government approval, TCA renamed Air Canada in 1965. The airline privatization occurred in 1988, following the deregulation in the Canadian airline market during the 1980s. Air Canada purchased Canadian Airlines, its largest competitor, on January 4, 2000. The airline filed for bankruptcy protection in 2003. It was reorganized by the holding company ACE Aviation Holdings Inc the following year. Air Canada flew 48 Million passengers in 2017, marking its 80th birthday.
