Overview of Saudi Airlines

In 1945, U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt gave a Douglas DC-3 to King Abdul Aziz Ibn Saud. This was a sign of the kingdom’s gradual progress in civil aviation. Saudia, the nation’s flag carrier, was established as Saudi Airlines in September 1945. It was a wholly-owned government agency under the control of the Ministry of Defense. TWA managed the airline under a management agreement. The flag carrier’s principal base was the now-demolished Kandara Airport which was located near Jeddah.

Carry-On Allowances and Fees

Saudi Airlines’ carry-on allowances can vary depending on the destination and fare. All Guest Class passengers are allowed one standard carry-on bag, no heavier than 15 pounds (7kg), and no larger than 22 inches (18”) x 10′(56cmx45cmx25cm). Both Business and First Class passengers can carry one bag with the same weight allowances. Briefcases must not exceed 18″x8’x14” (45cmx20cmx35cm) in size. These bags shouldn’t weigh more than 16 pounds (7kg) and 45 linear inches (114cm).

Pay for Additional Baggage Before Your Flight

You can save money by paying ahead if you know that you will need additional baggage. Saudi Airlines will charge you more for excess baggage.

Checked Bag Allowances and Fees

International Baggage Liability

The Montreal Convention governs the carriage of baggage on most international flights. This is the maximum amount that an airline can pay for a bag that has been lost, damaged, or delayed. While airlines are allowed to pay more than this limit, they are not required to. International baggage liability limits under the Montreal Convention are subject to inflationary adjustment by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
